Alella Wine

The Alella denomination of origin is set in the Maresme, along the Mediterranean coast, and in the province of Barcelona. It is a DO with wide wine-making tradition, which produces quality wines with a personality of their own. These are wines that are ideal wines to accompany rice, fish or vegetables. The climate is Mediterranean, with summers with high temperatures and mild winters. That is a typically dry Mediterranean climate, with moderate rainfall and occasional storms during the months of October and November. There is a difference in soil between the vineyards that are located near the sea and those which are further inland: the former are highly permeable and retain the rays of the sun perfectly. The latter have a high content of clay.

Traditional wines from the Alella denomination of origin are mainly the white wines, which are very fragrant and light. They also produce rosé and red wines that are fruity. The white grape varieties used are: Pansa Blanca (Xarel.lo) pansa rosada, Malvasia, Macabeo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Parellada, chenin blanc, white garnacha blanca and picapoll. In the red varieties, the following stand out: ull de llebre, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, syrah and garnacha negra.
